The theme was James Bond and inadequacy. The occasion was Vancouver's over-hyped yearly extravaganza - The Celebration of Light (formerly the more appropriately named: Symphony of Fire).
With the musical stylings of Shirley Bassey and Carley Simon, Britain's fireworks display was mediocre at best. Beaten over the head with 50 years of 007 hits, the iconic music was the star of the show. Unless one was directly beneath the fireworks barge the Light portion of the Celebration appeared to be about as spectacular as lit matches being tossed haphazardly in the air.
